The South Australian Masters Games
Delivered in collaboration with a regional council each year, the South Australian Masters Games is a multi-sport event designed to allow mature-aged sports people opportunities to participate in the sports of their choice and to compete with their peers.
The Games has been held annually since 1996, with the first games in the Riverland. Since then regions across South Australia have hosted the games viewing it as an opportunity to showcase their region and its unique tourism offerings.

Masters Games
Our 2025 host for the SA Masters Games is Port Augusta.
Port Augusta City Council’s application to host the highly anticipated 2025 SA Masters Games has been successful. Recently announced by Sport SA, the games will give Port Augusta an opportunity to showcase the city’s exceptional sporting facilities and unique location.
History
The notion of a Masters Games Series was first suggested by the Australian Sports Commission in the early 1980s. The concept spurned the World Masters in Toronto in 1985 as well as the Alice Springs Masters in 1986.
Since then a myriad Masters events have provided the world’s mature-age athletes with opportunities to come together to share physical competition with social activity and fun.

2026 SA Masters Games
Would you region like to benefit from hosting the South Australian Masters Games?
The tender to host the 2026 Games is now open. As Cooper Coast Mayor Roslyn Talbot points out:
“The Copper Coast was delighted to host the Masters Games in 2021, 2023 & 2024. The benefit it brought to the region from an economic and social point of view was exceptional.
I’d encourage any region thinking about hosting the games to do so! It’s so much more than a sporting event.” – Roslyn Talbot, Copper Coast Council, Mayo
The Copper Coast Council reported an economic benefit of $700 000 to the region across the four days of the Games in 2024. In addition, each hosting sport benefits from increased revenue
and participation and the Games shine a spotlight on your region, with up to 1600 participants and their families visiting for the Games, with many return to the region post Games.
